29 new volunteers inducted

There’s an old saying that says ‘many hands make light work’ and this couldn’t be truer when it comes to families welcoming in multiple babies. At MBVS we ensure all our volunteers are trained, experienced and prepared to lend a much needed helping hand. Our volunteers are responsible for offering support and hands-on help where needed; working with parents to assist multiple birth families as much as possible.

During July, we held two volunteer training workshops. Our training workshop is a mandatory and crucial part of becoming a hands-on helper with MBVS. The training includes a presentation from a maternal and child health nurse about current baby care practices, as well as a presentation from MBVS personnel about our organisation and the expectations of volunteers when helping in a families’ home. Volunteers are registered with our organisation once they meet our requirements, at which point they are able to assist families and their new additions in what is both an exciting and challenging time.

One training session was held in Whittlesea on the 20th of July to organise assistance for a family with newborn triplets, making a total of four children for the family. The session was specifically aimed at developing a strong support network for this family. The family was also able to attend the training session to enable them to meet their volunteers. This family is now receiving help six days a week from the babies’ grandparents and seven MBVS volunteers. This level of support would not be possible without our volunteers who demonstrate an unwavering level of attention and care.

Our second training session for the month was held on the 27th of July, where 22 new volunteers were inducted to the Southern Volunteer Bank. These volunteers are now registered with our organisation to assist multiple birth families in the southern suburbs of Melbourne as needed.
