Launch of Southern Volunteer Bank

In June 2018, we will launch our second volunteer bank, based in the southern suburbs of Melbourne, in association with Bayside City Council and Kingston City Council, assisted by grant funding from Bayside City Council.

We will run our first volunteer training session on 6 June 2018, in Bayside. After the success of our Eastern Volunteer Bank’s launch in mid 2017, it is exciting to be expanding our reach across Melbourne. Volunteer banks enable us to recruit and train volunteers that are then able to provide hands-on help in the home to multiple birth families in need. It means we are likely to have volunteers available when a referral from a medical professional is received, and we are able to act quickly to provide families with practical help.

Our hands-on help volunteers go in to the homes of families to help with the daily tasks of managing multiple birth children, such as feeding, settling, changing or playing with babies, or assisting with older siblings. Christine, a mother of twins and a toddler has said of the MBVS program “The MBVS helped my family in our time of need. I can’t thank them enough for their time, dedication as well as the love and they all provided to our family.” It is also a wonderful and enriching experience for our volunteers to be able to assist a family at the time they need it most.
